Our Canada 150 Gift – A NEW Playground

Posted On: 04/15/2017

The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is part of the Government of Canada's 150th birthday celebrations. Through this program, the federal government will contribute to local projects that renovate, expand and improve existing community infrastructure, with a focus on recreational facilities, developments that advance a clean growth economy, and projects with positive impacts on communities.

Village at Griesbach’s “Maple Leaf Park” was one of the projects selected for funding out of 20 that applied for parts of Edmonton’s allocation of $3 million in grant funding. Village at Griesbach’s Playground and Park was allocated a total of $235,428 for its design and construction.

The construction of the playground is scheduled to start this spring so it can be open for everyone during the summer. The basic design includes a regular playground with two main structures, a separate tot playground, bike bumps, swings, public seating and a ring of maple trees from which the Maple Leaf Park name was inspired.

Thanks to fundraising and sponsorships from corporate donors, extra funding was raised, which will be used for a brand-new gazebo, benches, and landscaping.

Get ready this summer to join in some fun filled family time at Village of Griesbach’s brand new playground and park.
