Work On Flanders Field Park Proceeding Quickly

Posted On: 14.10.20
Village at Griesbach is expanding its amenity areas with the development of Roundel Lake. The lake is situated between stage 9 and stage 16 in the northwest sector of the community. Canada Lands Company, developer of Village at Griesbach, began excavating the lake and park area in 2013, and has initiated walking paths that will wind through the park's plazas and viewing areas.

Roundel Lake

The area pays tribute to The Royal Canadian Air Force. The name "Roundel Lake" comes from the circular symbol that marked allied aircrafts in World War I and World War II. The Canadian Roundel is represented by a blue circle with a red maple leaf in the centre. Roundel Lake will be appointed a number of tributes and plazas including Spitfire Lookout, Mosquito Plaza, Griffen Plaza, the Avro Arrow and runway and Flanders Field Park.

In Flanders Field

Flanders Field Park is a tribute to Lt. Col. John McCrae. A Canadian, he authored the famous military poem,In Flanders Field, which is recited on Remembrance Day each year to honour those who have fallen in military combat. The new park is located at the northern tip of Roundel Lake, adjacent McCrae Avenue. Flanders Field Park features symbolic military features that honour Canadian soldiers and memorialize combat settings. Its entrance at McCrae Avenue features elevated steel walls that simulate World War I trenches. Several plaques and storyboards in the park will share the history of Canada's military commitment.

"It all goes back to getting people out of their vehicles to walk around and gain a sense of place in history and to create a sense of community for residents," –Marvin Neuman, Director of Real Estate – CLC."
